Great News for Orlando tourism industry
Orlando's tourism industry got great news on Oct. 15 The White House announced it would lift Covid-19 travel restrictions on Nov. 8 for fully vaccinated foreign nationals, putting an end to the historic ban keeping overseas visitors from China, Canada, Mexico, India, Brazil, much of Europe, and elsewhere from entering the U.S., Reuters reported.
What does this mean for Orlando?
The White House announcement is great news for Orlando's tourism industry which has seen record declines in overseas visitors over the past several months. The number of travelers from China peaked in September at around 11,000 people and then dropped to just 4,100 in October after it was announced that Beijing had the highest rate of Cov-19 infection out of any other country (Reuters). The pandemic led to travel bans across much of Europe and elsewhere; Mexico was particularly hard hit with a high percentage of its population becoming sick (N.Y. Times). European countries like Spain and Italy also saw steep declines in their tourism industry (N.Y. Times). Any lift on travel restrictions will be welcomed with open arms by Orlando's tourism industry.
The news is also significant for American companies which have seen their global exposure soar recently (N.Y. Times). The White House announcement came after New York City lifted its travel ban on Oct. 12 (Reuters), and Chicago lifted its ban the day before (chicagobusiness.com).
